The Toolbox Orchestra is an exotic one-in-a-million-band, even for their notorious adopted home
town Berlin: They are an all-female band and originally started out on instruments straight from the
workshop like singing saw and washtub bass. Completed by banjo, guitar, trumpet and clarinet they
weave an earthy and unique sound very close to the roots of the music they chose as their
playground: the music of the 1920s and early 30s.
They made their debut with international trad-jazz star Meschiya Lake and have performed at swing
dance, jazz and cultural festivals in Germany and beyond. In 2023, the orchestra was a guest at the
renowned Fest Jazz in France and in 2025 at the Lugano Buskers Festival in Switzerland. In addition,
the ensemble composed and performed film music for the short film festival interfilm Berlin from
2020-2022. The debut album 1928 was released in 2023.
